Community Involvement

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
-Winston Churchill

Donna Laurent knows how important it is to involve herself in the community in order to offer the benefit of her experience. She creatively and effectively promotes the needs of the family law community.

Donna Laurent serves as Board President of Haven Hills, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, helping victims of domestic violence since 1977

Founded in 1977, Haven Hills has been one of the pioneer agencies assisting victims of domestic violence and their children towards a life of safety, of healing, and free from violence.  Haven Hills is the largest provider of domestic violence shelter and supportive services in the San Fernando Valley.  The agency mission statement reads:

Haven Hills provides safety and support to victims of domestic violence while working to break the cycle of abuses. We offer shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and activities supporting increased economic opportunity to victims primarily in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. We endeavor to increase community awareness about domestic violence issues and bring about societal change through education and public advocacy.”

Donna A. Laurent has proudly served on the Haven Hills Board of Directors and was President of the Board from 2014 through 2017.

Family Violence Appellate Project

Donna volunteers as a practice judge assisting pro bono attorneys in the preparation of their oral arguments in appeals of domestic violence cases handled through this non-profit organization.

Bar Association and Other Activities

In addition to charitable work and giving, Donna is actively involved in LACBA, SFVBA, AFCC and various other family law organizations in the Los Angeles area.  She has served on the Family Law Executive Committee for the San Fernando Valley Bar Association’s Family Law Section where she has served in instrumental roles for over 15 years.  She was involved in the production and preparation of SFVBA Family Law Section’s innovative and ground-breaking trial advocacy program, “FLAT: Trial Technique Series” that runs from September of 2013 through June of 2014 offering nine modules of interactive trial training for family law attorneys.

Donna regularly presents at family law conferences, colloquia and symposia as well as local family law study groups regarding topics related to their particular areas of expertise and experience – often pertaining to domestic violence issues, including trauma-informed issues, and the challenges presented when children with special needs are involved in family law actions.
